President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, congratulated the Lebanese Red Cross, Chairman, staff and volunteers, on the memory of the International Red Cross founder, Henry Dunant, praising their efforts in all stages of Lebanese history, especially in the recent period in which they made double efforts to confront the Corona virus, and to provide aid and support to the sick, with all the dangers and sacrifices they took with courage and impulsion.
President Aoun, as honorary President of the Lebanese Red Cross, considered that the spirit which drives the young men and women who serve under the banner of the Red Cross is full of the concept of brotherhood, aid and bowing in front of others’ weaknesses and diseases, which makes them a social and humanitarian role model that is worthy of new representation, if we want to build a country based on values, transparency, solidarity and rejecting corruption.
Then, the President saluted Lebanese Red Cross martyrs, “Whose blood contributed to extinguishing the fires of fragmentation, fighting and hatred, and became a symbol of the struggle for peace and rapprochement between the Lebanese”. Therefore, all the Lebanese have the utmost respect and appreciation for Red Cross members who have made the spirit of volunteerism and service a measure of man’s ability to give without reckoning” President Aoun said.
President Aoun also asserted that the Lebanese Red Cross has never distinguished in its activity and service between one citizen and another, one region and another, regardless of sectarian, or political affiliations.
In addition, the President considered that “It is our duty, all of us, officials, institutions and individuals, to solidify with the Lebanese Red Cross, and to extend a hand of assistance and support to him in all available ways and without hesitation, in order for this association to continue its humanitarian and vital activities, along with other bodies, in the service of Lebanese society, especially in hard and critical circumstances”.
President Aoun concluded by addressing Red Cross volunteers with a final statement saying “You are the title of Lebanon’s originality, rich in civilization and human sense, and one look at you is enough to inject hope into the souls, and confidence in our success in facing all black clouds that weigh the lives of the Lebanese, exhausts their lives, and advance our homeland again to the ranks of leadership, prosperity and safety”.
