President Aoun received a New Year-congratulation cable from Bahraini King.
 
MP Kervran: “France is committed to its pledges to Lebanon. The French initiative is still in place”.
 
President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, met the Chairman of the Lebanese-French Parliamentary Friendship Committee in the French Parliament, MP Loic Kervran, today at Baabda Palace, in the presence of MP, Simon Abi Ramia.
The meeting addressed Lebanese-French relations, the French initiative and latest governmental developments. At the beginning of the meeting, MP Kervran congratulated the President on Christmas and New Year, and asserted France’s commitment to stand by Lebanon in light of the current difficult circumstances, especially after the Beirut Port explosion, and repercussions of Corona pandemic. Kervran also pointed out to the “Need to form a new Government, as a basic condition to implement required reforms, thus obtaining international aid, especially through CEDRE Conference”.
Moreover, MP Kervran affirmed that the French initiative is still ongoing, and that France doesn’t leave Lebanon in these circumstances, indicating that “French President Emmanuel Macron is committed to his pledges towards Lebanon and this is what we have seen through the two successive visits to Lebanon, as well as through the International Conference to Support Lebanon, through which Lebanon obtained 280 million US Dollars as humanitarian aid”. The French MP also stressed that President Macron has the will and desire to visit Lebanon, provided that a new date for this visit will be set according to circumstances.
Then, Representative Kervran briefed President Aoun on the work of the Lebanese-French Friendship Committee, revealing that “Civil institutions in France, as well as municipalities and representatives, were able to secure an amount of 3 million Euros in aid for Lebanon, after the Beirut Port explosion”.
For his part, MP Abi Ramia asserted that Lebanon counts on the vitality of France and President Macron, who is committed to his pledges to Lebanon and its people, in order to reach solutions and achieve the desired reforms. Abi Ramia also pointed out that “MP Kervran will meet with the French diplomatic cell, upon his return to France, in order to inform them of latest developments and results of his meetings with Lebanese officials”.

In addition, the President received a congratulatory telegram for Christmas and New Year, from the King of Bahrain, Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa.
The Bahraini King wished President Aoun good health and happiness, in addition to stability and prosperity for the Lebanese people.
