President of the Republic: For the rule of law and the institutions that everyone agreed to guarantee freedoms.

President Aoun: “I will ensure that the investigation reaches the truth in order to hold the officials and instigators accountable, like any judicial investigation, including the investigation into the port crime, which was and will remain a priority of my commitment”.

President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, assured the Lebanese that “The clock will not turn back, and we are going towards a solution and not towards a crisis”, stressing that “In cooperation with the Prime Minister and the Speaker of Parliament, we will not tolerate and will not surrender to any attempt that could be aimed at sedition, rejected by all Lebanese.

President Aoun’s words came during the speech he addressed to the Lebanese this evening, through the media, following the security events that took place in the Tayouneh area from before noon until early afternoon.
And while the President of the Republic considered that “What we witnessed today is painful and unacceptable, regardless of the causes and causes”, he affirmed that “It is not acceptable for arms to return as a language of communication between the Lebanese parties, because we all agreed to turn this dark page from our history”, noting that “The rule of law and institutions that everyone has agreed to, and which guarantees freedoms, especially freedom of expression, must be the only one, through its institutions, the only valid reference for dealing with any problem, dispute or objection”.

President Aoun also stressed that, “The street is not the place of objection, and the erection of barricades or escalating positions also do not carry a solution”.
“There is no matter that has no solution, and its solution is only within the institutions and also through the constitution” the President said.
President Aoun saluted the military and security forces that have done and will carry out their duties in protecting security, stability and civil peace, and pledged to the Lebanese that what happened today will be the subject of security and judicial follow-up, like any other judicial investigation, including the investigation into the port crime, “Which was and will remain a priority of my work and my commitment towards the Lebanese and the international community, on the basis of judicial independence, separation of powers and respect for justice”.
The President emphasized not to allow anyone to take the country as hostage to its own interests or calculations.

President Speech:
“My loved ones,
What we witnessed today in the Tayouneh area is a painful and unacceptable scene, regardless of the causes. First of all, I express my condolences to the families of the innocent who were killed today by criminal-bullets. It brings us back to the days we have long gone, and we said: “These days will be remembered but never repeated”.

My loved ones,

It is not acceptable for weapons to return as a language of communication between the Lebanese parties, because we all agreed to turn this dark page from our history.
What happened today is unacceptable, especially at a time when everyone has agreed to resort to the rule of law and institutions. This state, which guarantees liberties, especially freedom of expression, must be the only valid reference, through its institutions, to address any problem, dispute or objection.

The street is not a place of objection, and the erection of barricades or escalatory positions do not also provide a solution.
There is no matter for which there is no solution, and its solution is only within the institutions and also through the Constitution. No matter or threat is superior to the Constitution.

My loved ones,

The country cannot tolerate street disputes.
The country needs calm treatments, whose natural place is the institutions, foremost of which is the Cabinet, which must convene, and quickly. Today, contacts were made with the concerned parties to address what happened, and most importantly to prevent it from happening again, knowing that we will not allow it to happen under any circumstances. Military and security forces have done and will carry out their duties in protecting security, stability and civil peace. We will not allow anyone to take the country hostage to their own interests or calculations.
My loved ones,

What happened today will be the subject of security and judicial follow-up. And I, for my part, will ensure that the investigation reaches the truth of what happened, leading to the accountability of those responsible and instigators of it, just like any other judicial investigation, including the investigation into the crime of the port, which was and will remain a priority of my work and my commitment towards the Lebanese and the international community, on the basis of the independence of the judiciary, the separation of powers and respect for justice.

Finally, I assure the Lebanese that the clock will not turn back. We are going towards a solution, not a crisis. I, in cooperation with the Prime Minister and the Speaker of Parliament, will not tolerate and will not surrender to any fait accompli whose goal could be sedition, which all Lebanese reject”.
