President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun,
received Justice Minister, Henry Khoury, today at Baabda Palace.
The President stressed the necessity of activating
the role of the Supreme Judicial Council, especially after the appointment of
four members and taking the legal oath with the fifth member yesterday.
The meeting also addressed ongoing investigations
into the bloody events which took place yesterday in the Tayouneh area and the
need to expedite their completion to determine responsibilities.
For his side, Minister Khoury expressed his hope
that “The Supreme Judicial Council will play its role as it should due to the
proper conduct of judicial work, as it is the supervisor of this role”.
MP Abi Khalil:
The President met MP Cesar Abi Khalil and tackled
with him current developments and the needs of the Aley region.
Director General of Civil Defense:
President Aoun received Civil Defense Director
General, Brigadier Raymond Khattar.
Khattar briefed President Aoun on the measures and
procedures taken by the Civil Defense to ensure full readiness to intervene
when necessary, and the difficulties it faces.
For his part, President Aoun praised the efforts
made by the Civil Defense with all its individuals and volunteers, especially
appreciating their role in extinguishing the fuel tank that caught fire in
Al-Zahrani facilities a few days ago.
Denial of Fake News:
The Presidency Press Office denied that there was
any communication between President Michel Aoun and judicial investigator,
Judge Tarek Bitar, to inform President Aoun of his desire to step down,
according to what journalist Simon Abu Fadel mentioned on MTV channel yesterday
night.
The Press Office confirmed that this news was false
and baseless, as there was no communication between the President of the
Republic and Judge Bitar.
The Press Office indicated that everything
attributed to the President of the Republic and is not issued by him personally
or by the Office couldn’t be relied upon.
