President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, signed today Law No. 196 (Dated December3, 2020), which aims to provide compensation and pension to families of the Beirut Port explosion victims, enabling those who were disabled to benefit from all health gains of the National Social Security Fund, contained in the law issued by Decree No.13955 (Dated 26/9/1963/ Social Security Law), and from the Law on the Rights of Individuals with Additional Needs No.220 (Dated May 29, 2000).

The President of the Republic, published the following law:

Single Material:

1.     Civilians who were martyred in the Beirut Port explosion, which occurred on August 4, 2020, are considered martyrs in the Lebanese army, and the right-holders of benefit from compensation and retirement pensions for a soldier who was martyred while performing his duty. The same provisions related to the benefits which apply to the families of martyrs of the Lebanese army, apply here.

2.     Individuals who have been completely or partially disabled as a result of the aforementioned explosion are considered to be covered for life by health benefits of the National Social Security Fund, as well as from the aid, rights and exemptions which benefit those in additional needs, which were approved by Law No.220 (Dated 29/5/2000/ Relevant Law/ Rights of People with Additional Needs).

3.     This Law shall come into force upon its publication in the Official Gazette.

Displaced Minister:

The President had met Displaced Minister, Mrs. Ghada Shreim, and deliberated with her the work of the Displaced Ministry, and the measures taken to end the file of the displaced, in preparation for the abolition of this Ministry.

Minister Shreim stated that she is working to transfer the owed files to the National Fund for the Displaced, and to close the files which are not due. It is noteworthy that Minister Shreim had previously set the date for the end of citizens’ review of the damaged restoration and reconstruction files.

 

 

Independence Congratulations:

President Aoun had received an independence congratulation telegram, from the Kuwaiti Emir, Nawwaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, which stated:

“I am pleased to express, to your Excellency, my sincerest congratulations on the 77th independence anniversary of the brotherly Lebanon. I take this occasion to praise the historical and solid ties which unite the State of Kuwait and the brotherly Republic of Lebanon, affirming our constant and common aspirations to strengthen and elevate the framework of cooperation between both countries, to broader horizons, to serve their interest.

With my sincerest wishes to your Excellency for good health and wellness, and to the brotherly Lebanese Republic and its honorable people, for all the progress and prosperity”.

Kuwaiti Crown Prince, Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, also sent an independence congratulation cable.
