President Aoun: “Initial estimates of losses from the Port bombing exceed $ 15 billion”.


The King of Spain: The Spanish government is ready for any additional effort to erase the impact  of the painful bombing.



President of the Republic General Michel Aoun received a phone call this evening from the King of Spain Felipe VI, during which he offered condolences in his name and on behalf of the Queen and the Spanish people to the victims of the bombing in Beirut, expressing solidarity with the Lebanese people in this ordeal that befell him, wishing a speedy recovery for the wounded.  He said, “The Spanish people are in solidarity with the Lebanese people in this ordeal that they have endured, and as an expression of that, we sent urgent aid, and we will send more of it to contribute to addressing the repercussions of the bombing and we are ready to provide everything that the Lebanese request in this field, and this is an obligation towards a country we realize its importance in the stability of the region and in being an example of coexistence between sects. We affirm our adherence to its independence and sovereignty”.
King Phillip VI confirmed Spain’s continued participation in the United Nations forces in the south (UNIFIL), noting that it is the largest Spanish force operating outside Spain. He pointed out that the Spanish Government is ready for any additional effort to erase the traces of the painful bombing, which has caused grief and pain for the Lebanese and all their friends, especially the Spanish friends.


President Aoun responded by thanking the Spanish monarch for his affection, as well as for the Spanish prime minister's participation in the Paris conference last Sunday, and for the aid that was decided to be send to Lebanon after the port bombing.  President Aoun pointed out that initial estimates of the losses suffered by Lebanon exceed $15 billion, in addition to other material losses, and damage to the port and the need for building materials to rebuild the neighborhoods smashed by the bombing.  President Aoun expressed his appreciation for any Spanish assistance in this field, noting to the role played by the Spanish contingent working in UNIFIL.
