President Aoun praised the role played by the US army in supporting the Lebanese military forces.

 

The President wished that mediator Hochstein would resume his efforts, especially after the completion of the parliamentary elections, after Ambassador Shea raised the issue of the demarcation.

 

General Corella affirmed continuous US support for the Lebanese army to enable it to play its role in maintaining security and stability.

 

 

President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, met the new commander of the US Central Command, General Michael Corella, on the occasion of assuming his responsibilities. 

 

US Ambassador to Lebanon, Dorothy Shea, also attended the meeting.

 

The existing cooperation between the US and Lebanese army was tackled, where General Corella affirmed the continued US support to enable it to play its role in maintaining security and stability in Lebanon.

 

The President wished the US General success in his new mission, especially as it includes 21 countries in the least stable region, and noted the role played by the US Army in supporting the Lebanese military forces.

 

For her part, Ambassador Shea discussed the importance of resuming negotiations to demarcate the southern maritime border.

 

President Aoun had expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by the US mediator, Amos Hochstein, to reach a solution to the demarcation issue, hoping that he would resume his efforts, especially after the parliamentary elections are completed.​
